Followin’ Gideon

We’ve “followed” the hard-working and unsinkable Miss Sunday. Now let’s take a look at my 5-year old son’s comings-and-goings.

The photos I’ve collected by followin’ Gideon (who always leaves the “g’s” off of his participles) display a bit of his quirkiness while illuminating the simplicity and timelessness of boyhood. I love walking into a room to find one of his contraptions hanging from the bed or a line-up of his army men across the floor…or, in the case of last week, an extra-long earthworm hanging slimily onto the living room window.

Speaking of boyhood, one of my favorite memories is of a typical summer day when my husband came home from work. He hugged Gideon and wrestled him and then turned him upside-down by his ankles, causing him to belly laugh uncontrollably…and that’s when I noticed at least 2 tablespoons of dirt pouring out of his shirt pocket and gathering into a little heap on the floor.

I definitely know what little boys are made of.

Here’s what my son, in particular, is made of…

Finger flashlights aren’t just for fingers…

they fit toes just fine.

practicin’…

makin’ clotheslines for Mama’s dishrags…

dinosaurs everywhere.

drawin’ whirlpools to drown all the “bad guys” in…

sittin’ with Granddaddy…

eatin’ my favorite, Grandmother’s spaghetti…

my caterpillar friend.

leanin’ on Papa…

holdin’ hands with Mama…

workin’…

and guess what? I’m finally big enough to sit on the porch rail.

my moth friend…

floatin’ and grinnin’ in dirty bathwater…

dunkin’ cookies in my milk…

earthworms.

decoratin’ with earthworms…

an army-man revolt…

an army-man picnic…

kickin’ in the dirt…

a homemade zipline…

Mastermind? Maybe.

Fearfully and wonderfully made? For sure.
